А история такая.
It was in 1915, 100 years ago, that the Turkish armed forces led by Mustafa Kemal defeated the allies in the battle of Gallipoli. Mustafa Kemal later led the War of Independence which transformed the Ottoman Empire into the modern Turkish Republic in 1923. An outstanding commander as well as a statesman, he was later given the name “Atatürk”, father of the Turks. In 1934 Atatürk wrote a tribute to the Anzacs killed at Gallipoli: "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." As the Turkish Orienteering Federation we devote the Turkish Championships of the 2014-2015 season to all those who lost their lives in those times and introduce another International Orienteering Competition on challenging terrain, the Gallipoli Peace Cup to be held in different regions on either side of the Dardanelles.
